Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) believes in 'building homes with heart' and corporate social responsibility, supporting numerous charities that assist the less fortunate. This ongoing commitment earned SHKP the Caring Company designation for the seventh year running. A total of 52 SHKP group companies, residential estates and shopping malls were named the Caring Company in 2008/09; 15 more than last year.

SHKP was nominated by nine non-governmental organizations – one of the most for any company – and it excelled in all the criteria: volunteering, employee friendly, employing the vulnerable, caring for the environment, mentoring and giving to charity. The honour recognizes SHKP's commitment to corporate social responsibility. SHKP and ten member companies earned '5-Year Plus' designations this year.

The Caring Company scheme is intended to encourage businesses to show social responsibility and work with the social welfare sector to build a caring society. The organizers introduced the '5-Year Plus' designation last year to recognize companies with good track records of satisfying at least three of the six criteria between 2002/03 and 2008/09.
