In keeping with its commitment to good corporate citizenship, the Group contributes to society by sponsoring a wide range of charitable and educational projects in Hong Kong and on the mainland. It works for a harmonious community through a multitude of initiatives.

Knowledge & culture

  • Enthusiastically supported the East Asian Games by organizing hours of celebrations in the run up to the opening of the Games with the people of Hong Kong. Also took nearly 200 underprivileged children with their families to watch the Games accompanied by around 100 SHKP volunteers. (Details)

  • Sponsored the New China military parades photo exhibition to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China. It contained nearly 200 images of 14 military parades over the years. (Details)

  • Invited the highly respected Professor Pai Hsien Yung to speak on Kunqu (a variety of Chinese opera), which attracted an audience of over 400. (Details)

  • Collaborated with The Chinese University of Hong Kong to stage public lectures by visiting Nobel laureates, offering Hong Kong people the chance to learn from top scholars. (Details)

  • The Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Sun Hung Kai Properties Charitable Fund collaborated to develop a unique City Art Square. (Details)

  • Cheered the Beijing Olympics by donating to the construction of the "Water Cube" in Beijing and becoming a Property Developer Supporter of the equestrian events in Hong Kong. Its Royal Park Hotel in Sha Tin was the Olympic Village serving equestrian athletes and support personnel. Vice Chairman and Managing Director Thomas Kwok was one of the bearers in the Hong Kong leg of the torch relay, sharing this historic event with all Hong Kong people. (Details)

  • Set up the popular SHKP Book Club and publishes a literary magazine to promote reading in Hong Kong. Staged the Young Writers' Debut competition to help budding young authors have their first books published. (Details)

  • The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation donated HK$62.5 million to the National Ballet of China; donated RMB$27 million to restore West Huang Temple; organized a series of seminars to promote Chinese culture, some of which were reproduced in book form; donated RMB16.3 million to the Academy of Chinese Culture to promote cultural exchanges among the mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. The Foundation also set up the SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation Foreign Language Training Centre at the Academy to lift foreign language proficiency among mainland civil servants.

Education

  • The SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation is sponsoring mainland guidance counsellors to train in Hong Kong in collaboration with the mainland Ministry of Education and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The Foundation has committed HK$2 million for four consecutive years. (Details)

  • The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation has committed RMB2 million to a four-year scholarship programme at Tianjin University that will give 400 deserving students in financial hardship RMB5,000 a year to complete undergraduate degrees at Tianjin University from 2009 to 2012. (Details)

  • The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation earmarked RMB4 million for a four-year scholarship programme that will give 200 deserving students RMB5,000 annually to complete four-year undergraduate studies at Sichuan University and Southwest Jiaotong University from 2009 to 2012. (Details)

  • Noah's Adventureland and Anchor House in Ma Wan Noah's Ark help visitors overcome their fear and instill the courage to face difficulties. (Details)

  • The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation set up the Sun Yat-sen University Elite Scholarship programme.

  • SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation donated RMB30 million to set up the Pudong Cultural and Education Development Programme to train talented individuals.

  • SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation established the HK$15 million SHKP Kwoks' Foundation-CUHK Mainland Students Scholarships to fund talented mainlanders studying at CUHK.

  • SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation established the RMB12 million Northwest University scholarship programme.

  • Donated HK$40 million to the Open University of Hong Kong's phase II campus extension though the TS Kwok Foundation.

  • Has run an award scheme for young professors at Tsinghua University in Beijing since 1997.

  • Offers scholarships to MBA students at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

  • Sponsors the American Field Service student exchange programme to allow youngsters from Hong Kong to study overseas.

  • Provided funds to allow local teachers to do further studies at the Hong Kong Institute of Education.

  • Set up the Northwest New Territories Elite Students Programme.

  • The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation offers scholarships to a large number of needy mainland students, allowing them to pursue studies on the mainland and at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

  • Donated HK$100,000 to the non-profit organization Summerbridge, which offers free English lessons to help students from financially deprived families complete their regular studies.

Caring for the needy

  • Sponsored over 1,100 underprivileged children to visit the annual book fair. The children each got HK$200 to buy books. (Details)

  • Ma Wan Park Noah's Ark began Operation 5+2 to enable individuals and organizations to show care for people in need by sponsoring the less fortunate in activities at Noah's Ark. (Details)

  • Ma Wan Park and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service invited over 6,000 of the underprivileged (as nominated by 120 welfare groups) to visit the Ark and try the facilities. Transportation and lunch were subsidized by the Park. (Details)

  • Ma Wan Park and Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council staged a five-month programme to let nearly 1,000 people from 300 underprivileged families visit the park. The visitors will take part in a series of interesting activities aimed at fostering family unity and love. (Details)

  • Sponsored 700 children from low-income families to the Hong Kong Book Fair with HK$200 in coupons to buy books. (Details)

  • The SHKP Volunteer Team was established in 2003. It encourages staff to undertake community service and offer assistance to the needy. The team serves the community in conjunction with a number of charitable organizations. (Details)

  • The SHKP Volunteer Team earned a Total Caring award in the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council's 17th Outstanding Volunteer Awards and an Outstanding Corporate Partner award in the Christian Family Service Centre Volunteer Team Recognition Day 2009. (Details)

  • SHKP Volunteer Team won a Highest Service Hours merit award from the Social Welfare Department for 50,000 hours of service in 2008. (Details)

  • The TS Kwok Foundation donated HK$10 million to the Hong Kong Federation of Women to fund construction of a new community service centre. The new centre is named HKFW T. S. Kwok Service Centre.

  • Joins the Pilot Neighbourhood Active Ageing Project under the Labour and Welfare Bureau.

  • Supports the Modern Apprenticeship project, offering training for apprentices and coaching by experienced SHKP employees. Also sponsors a two-year Pathfinder programme to encourage youth who failed their HKCEEs.

  • The SHKP Fund for the Elderly established in 1994 provides assistance and organizes social gatherings for Hong Kong seniors, with the aid of annual contributions from the Group.

  • Organized the Hong Chi Climbathon to raise funds for the Hong Chi Association, which assists mentally-handicapped children.

  • Helped the Haven of Hope Sunnyside School in Tseung Kwan O build the first sensory garden in Hong Kong, to give mentally-handicapped students an outdoor facility that aids the development of sensory perception. The project cost about HK$1 million.

  • Highest Fund-Raising Corporation in the Community Chest marathon for 14 consecutive years. Vice Chairman and Managing Director Thomas Kwok won the Fastest Chief Executive Award - Half Marathon and SHKP staff took numerous other awards.

  • A Third Top Donor of the Year award, President's Award and Merit Award from the Community Chest showing SHKP's long-standing commitment.

  • The Group, its staff and the TS Kwok Foundation donated HK$18 million to help victims of the Sichuan earthquake.

  • The SHKP Club ran an Understand Your Loved Ones campaign to encourage the loving home ideal in Hong Kong with a number of activities. The campaign encouraged members and the public to share their thoughts with family members and support each other, as a step towards a harmonious society. (Details)

  • A diamond sponsor of the 2010 Ngong Ping Charity Walk; the fourth year in a row it has supported the event. (Details)

  • Offers free office space to ORBIS - an organization that fights blindness in developing countries, saving it HK$1 million each year. The Group was presented with an ORBIS Crystal Award for its generosity.
