International Green Standards
The Group believes in green living and makes comprehensive environmental measures an integral part of its developments. Many of its offices and residential developments have top BEAM rankings in recognition of high standards for green buildings, including International Commerce Centre, International Finance Centre, Sun Hung Kai Centre, Central Plaza, Millennium City, The Parcville, Villa by the Park, Park Island and YOHO Town. International Commerce Centre was given a top platinum BEAM ranking.
Kowloon Commerce Centre was the first Hong Kong commercial development to get Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) gold pre-certification from the US Green Building Council. Shanghai IFC has LEED gold pre-certification in recognition of its eco-friendly features.
New Technology
The Group uses the latest green technology in its business and is always looking for ways to improve. It sponsors research at Hong Kong universities to explore techniques for enhancing energy efficiency in buildings, renewable energy sources, maintaining air and water quality and to use natural resources efficiently.
International Commerce Centre is a world-class development incorporating advanced technology in the design and operation. The Group worked with researchers from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to develop the world's first energy optimizer air-conditioning system, and the development has an energy-efficiency, high-security double-deck lift system. The two technologies are expected to produce significant electricity savings compared with standard office buildings, conserving enough each year to supply 6,500 families of four with power for a month.
Green Honours
The Group has won numerous honours for its contributions to environment protection, including a Hong Kong Enterprise Environmental Achievement Award from the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Association, Hong Kong Award for Industries: Environmental Performance and Eco-Business Prime Awards. Kai Shing and Hong Yip won six medals in the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence in the property management sector including one Gold in 2010. The awards are presented by 11 green groups, including the Environmental Campaign Committee, Environmental Protection Department, Advisory Council on the Environment and Business Environmental Council.
